Baptism
Baptism is the beginning of Christian initiation into the Catholic Community. Your family is considered the “household Church” and it is there where your child will grow and develop in his or her Christian life.
Baptism is a time of welcoming of your child into the family of the Church. Baptism is not a private sacrament, but one which invites your child into the life of the Catholic family and your local parish community.
At St Bede’s children are baptised at regular intervals throughout the year. If families would like their child baptised within the context of Sunday Mass then this can also be arranged. For Baptism Dates, please see the Sacramental Programme under Parish Notices at right.
Please contact the Parish Office to obtain the necessary documents.
First Eucharist
The second Sacrament of Christian Initiation is reception of the Eucharist. Usually children are in Year 3 at the time of their First Eucharist.
Children who are not enrolled at St Bede’s School and who reside within the boundaries of our parish can be enrolled in our Catechetical Programme.
Dates of our Children’s Sacramental Programme are announced each year in the parish notices (at right). Please contact the Parish Office for further details.
Confirmation
The third Sacrament of Christian Initiation is through Confirmation. In the Archdiocese of Melbourne the date is set by the Archbishop’s Office and Confirmation is conferred by the Archbishop or one of his Auxiliary Bishops.
Confirmation dates each year are announced in the parish Sacramental Programme notices (at right).
Marriage
Christian Marriage is the making of a life-long covenant of love between husband and wife.
Couples marrying at St. Bede’s are supported by local marriage preparation with parish couples and are offered support for the celebration of their wedding by our Marriage team.
For marriages at St. Bede’s Parish please call our Parish Office to discuss your dates and to make arrangements for the Celebrant of your marriage.
At least 6 months notice is required to complete all necessary documentation and preparation.
Anointing of the Sick
This Sacrament is for the healing of people in body, mind or spirit. This prayer of the Church brings the comfort of the presence of Christ the Healer into the most vulnerable moments of a person’s life.
St. Bede’s holds communal Anointing of the Sick during Lent and Advent.
Priests of the Parish may be called upon to visit the sick at home.
Our Communion to the Sick teams visit people in their homes or local hostels regularly. This ministry brings the community of St. Bede’s to those who no longer are able to participate at Sunday Eucharist due to age, frailty or sickness.
Please contact the Parish Office to arrange Communion to the Sick or Anointing.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA
RCIA is a process of adult formation and preparation for initiation into the Catholic Church.
At St Bede’s, RCIA teams support those who are searching for a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Sometimes there are individuals who are already baptised in another Christian tradition who desire union with the Catholic Church (Candidates) and those adults who are not baptised (Catechumens). Over the Church’s liturgical calendar the RCIA moves towards the culmination of baptism of Catechumens or reception of Candidates at Easter.
If you are interested in RCIA please contact Mrs Jo Ryan in the Parish Office on 8851 4600 for further information.
For further details about receiving any of the sacraments please contact the Parish Office.
